OFF CAMPUS INCIDENT

This incident did not affect any members of the UH community or directly impact the campus.  This information was disseminated to heighten community awareness and to empower the UH community to take proactive measures to enhance personal safety.

SUSPECTS:    African American male suspect approximately 6'0" to 6'1", approximately 20 - 25 years old, 220 lbs, wearing a white cap, white shirt, black pants and a black jacket.

WEAPONS:    One black semi-automatic pistol

VEHICLE:       A silver or light grey compact four door car

SYNOPSIS:    At approximately 3:34 a.m., Monday, March 3, 2008 a UHDPS police officer was flagged down by the complainant at the 3300 block of Scott Street.  The complainant advised the officer that the suspect standing near him had just tried to rob him with a handgun.  The suspect fled the scene by running west on Simmons Street and possibly drove away in the suspect vehicle.

The complainant advised that he was initially contacted by the suspect and another individual at the Mobil Gas Station at Scott and Elgin and asked if he wanted to purchase drugs.  The complainant immediately left the area walking southbound on Scott Street.  The suspect approached the complainant from behind and struck him with a blunt object.  When the complainant turned to face his assailant, the suspect pointed the handgun at him.  At this time the UHDPS Officer saw the complainant and stopped to investigate the incident and the suspect fled.  No one was seriously injured.
